Consumer Court: Shoe shop manager issued notice

Petitioner pleads for Rs50,000 damages for “mental agony” for shoes worth Rs1000.

A consumer court on Saturday issued a notice, for May 7, to the manager of a shoe shop. The notice was issued in a suit in which the petitioner is seeking damages for being sold a low-quality pair.

Muhammad Younas said that he had purchased a pair of shoes from the Shahdara outlet of Servis Shoes for Rs999. He said that the pair didn’t even last a month. The heel broke and the leather was damaged in 28 days, Younas claimed.

He said he had approached the respondent but his request was ignored. The petitioner said he had sent the shoe shop manager a notice but was yet to receive a reply. He prayed that the court direct the respondent to reimburse the cost of the pair of shoes and pay Rs8,000 in lawyer’s fee, Rs2,000 in financial losses and Rs50,000 for causing him “mental agony”.

Sheikh Zafar, the shop manager, said that he had told Younas that they would replace the pair. However, Younas had not returned with the damaged pair.
