Making use of our senior citizens

Letter April 28, 2012
Since they are no longer in active service, they can think and act without fear or favour.

ISLAMABAD: Retired persons have an unlimited potential to help steer the country out of the current crisis. They are free from the encumbrances inherent in ACRs and other restrictions controlling the mindset of serving public servants.

A way can be found to utilise the enormous wealth of knowledge of this section of society that is finding it extremely hard to make ends meet.

Because of the wealth of their experiences, senior citizens are a gold mine of ideas and information and this could be used to help improve policy formulation. Since they are no longer in active service, they can think and act without fear or favour. This could be an asset for Pakistan, whose bureaucracy seems beholden more to rules and regulations than to serving its citizens.
