Netball event ends on a high

KARACHI:

Faiz Ahmed Faiz School clinched the two-day netball tournament as the talent-hunt programme, funded jointly by the Australian Sports Commission and the Pakistan Netball Federation (PNF), concluded in Lodhran yesterday.

Faiz Ahmed Faiz School beat 49-M School 3-2 in the final to lift the trophy, while Aslam Public School finished third after beating Amna Girls School 2-1 in the playoff match.

The PNF Secretary Mudassar Arain said the programme, which concluded with the girls’ tournament that featured 160 players representing 13 schools from the city, will promote the sport and help the federation shortlist names for an upcoming tournament in Brisbane.

“Most of the girls here took part in a netball tournament for the first time,” Arain told The Express Tribune. “We need to make a women’s team that can participate in upcoming events and we’ve shortlisted 20 players who will be trained in Islamabad from next month.”
