Lahore blast: Death toll rises to 4 as another child succumbs to injuries

LAHORE: The death toll from Tuesday evening blast at the Lahore railway station reached four as seven-year old Umar succumbed to  his injuries at The Children's Hospital on Wednesday, reported Express News.

Earlier during the day, another child succumbed to his injuries at the Mayo Hospital.

Nine-year-old Mahmood Khan, a resident of Khanpur was present at the Lahore railway station along with his parents when a bomb ripped through the waiting lounge of a luxury train, killing two persons and injuring over 60.

Khan had sustained head injuries and was shifted to the neurological ward at Mayo Hospital, where doctors had little hope of his survival.

The blast occurred on Platform No 2, right outside the waiting lounge of Business Express train at around 6:42pm just as the Peshawar-bound Awami Express chugged out.

Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Aslam Tarin had said that six to eight kilogrammes of explosives were used in the bomb.

He said the bomb could have been transported from another city. He was referring to two trains that arrived at Platform No 2 from Karachi an hour before the blast.

All 17 closed-circuit television cameras installed at the railway station were out of order, CCPO Tarin had added.
