Shadow play

Letter April 24, 2012
The Afghan resistance is still alive despite the passage of 11 years.

MARACAIBO, VENEZUELA: This is with reference to Zahrah Nasir’s article “Shadow play” (April 24). Resistance and guerilla wars cannot survive and succeed without the help of the local population. The Afghan resistance is still alive despite the passage of 11 years. This clearly indicates that they are supported by the local population. Furthermore, it is now becoming evident that the US did not invade Afghanistan to capture Osama bin Laden or oust the Taliban government. They came here to attain their goals, i.e. using Afghanistan as a base camp to get to the region’s natural resources, restricting Chinese influence and progress, eliminating Pakistan’s nuclear weapons and preventing Iran from becoming a nuclear power.
