Bashir Qureshi: JSQM rejects investigative report, strike on April 21

KARACHI: Jeay Sindh Qaumi Mahaz (JSQM) called a police report investigating causes leading to the death of their late party leader Bashir Qureshi as 'ambiguous' before rejecting it, Express News reported on Thursday.

To protest the investigative report, the party has issued a strike call for April 21 across Sindh.

Earlier during the day, investigative committee head Umar Memon, told media that it was premature to say whether Qureshi was poisoned or not.

Memon, submitting Qureshi’s medical report, said that further chemical examination needs to be conducted to ascertain the exact cause of his death.

He added that initial investigations revealed that while phosphorous was found in Qureshi’s body, its quantity could not be ascertained. This phosphorous is also present in pesticides, Memon said.

According to a microscope report, Qureshi had also experienced a heart attack before he died.

The leadership of JSQM maintains that Qureshi, who died on April 7, had been poisoned in Sakrand, Benazirabad district, and had demanded an impartial inquiry into his 'murder'.

Altaf calls for foreign experts to investigate Qureshi's death

Following the medical report presented by investigators on Thursday, Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) chief Altaf Hussain on Thursday called for foreign criminal experts to be made part of investigations.

In a statement released by the MQM,  Hussain gave the example of General Asif Nawaz, whose death too had been investigated by foreign experts.

Demanding that investigations be expedited, he said that Urdu speaking Sindhis, and Sindhi speaking Sindhis remained united.
