LAHORE: Former senator, information minister and Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid central information secretary Tariq Azeem is to join Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) at a press conference hosted by party president Nawaz Sharif today (Thursday). According to party sources, Tariq has ‘served’ the Sharif family well, impressing the PML-N which has accepted him into its ranks. Sources said that Tariq’s brother, Shujaat Azeem, who was a pilot for former Lebanese prime minister Rafiq Hariri, was key to negotiations between the Sharifs, Pervez Musharraf and Arab leaders. The late Hariri was the brother-in-law of Saudi King Abdullah, who harboured the exiled Nawaz during Musharraf’s tenure. Furthermore, Shujaat also has close relations with central player in the Memogate scandal, Mansoor Ijaz. Sources said Azeem formed a separate group comprising around 5 senators who supported PML-N in Senate.
