Pakistan has not been given any deadline by the US to resume the Nato supply routes since it was already “moving in the right direction”, the minister counsellor for public affairs of the US embassy said on Wednesday while speaking to a group of journalists in Peshawar.
As the government prepares for renewed terms of engagement with the US, Washington has adopted the policy of “strategic patience” while both the allies have kept their language “very low” amidst recent developments, Thomas Miller said.
Appreciating the efforts to make the relationship more transparent, the US embassy representative said that “a stable Pakistan was in the best interest of the US”.
He added that billions of dollars were being poured into development sector in Pakistan to resolve the energy crisis.
“$80 million were being provided for the Gomal-Zam Dam,” he said about the project which envisions providing 25,000 houses with electricity.
Miller said that another $15 million were being put into the reconstruction of the Amandara-Munda headwork which is expected to irrigate 415,500 acres of agricultural land from the Batkhela Valley to the Swabi plains, reviving agriculture and benefitting over 200,000 people.
Miller said that the USAID was not currently advertising but added: “We have re-built around 200 schools in Swat.”
Keeping in mind the increasing anti-US sentiment across Pakistan, he said: “The schools are not targeted for that reason.”

But who listens to us? we're just an other brick in the wall.
You don't need a deadline if you don't need the supply line. Probably hasn't dawned on Pakistan that NATO operations seem to be doing fine without the supply line - and those operations are scheduled to steadily decrease as the exit time nears. It's clear that the most of Pakistan's demands are not considered realistic by the American's and it's likely they are willing to live with the status quo rather than stop drone attacks or even give an unconditional apology.
US is not in a position to give deadlines now.
NATO and USA are confident enaugh about the loyality of their poppet agents,i.e. Gilani and zardari. so they need not to threaten them.
very modest of US embassy to deny giving such deadline but they must understand that if some thing can be accomplished in this land of pure that is through DANDA/ deadlines ( CM Punjab has proven it). Can USAID work directly for lower middle and lower classes by opening American high class type school chain ( free education) where highly educated teachers are employed. Every major city and town should be considered and no SIFARISH of higher classes should be entertained. I think this can change the spectrum of our thinking and our socio culture caliber can be improved. This might free our illiterate, poor and narrow minded people from the clutches of extremism.
Who are the americans to give us a deadline?
US Saying pakistan is moving in the right direction. that means course of action and direction is already decided between two and now its just a puppet show!!
Supplies should NEVER be opened. We can't further murder our brothers in this American battle. Its time to stop this barbaric act.
The money US provides always go to corrupt leaders and their minions.
