A report submitted to the Ministry of Interior has also revealed that 93 police officers had been deployed for duty and only 30 were present when the attack was carried out. Only six FC personnel out of 20 were present at the compound.
Nearly 400 inmates had escaped during the attack, including certain high profile Taliban militants. Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) was said to have claimed responsibility for the attack stating that most of the freed prisoners had reached ‘their destination’. A senior police official confirmed that out of a total of 944 prisoners, 384 prisoners, some of them most-wanted criminals, had escaped.
According to the investigation report, approximately 100 armed insurgents in 25 cars had carried out the attack. It had earlier been reported that 200 militants had attacked the jail compound.
During the attack, 33 prisoners had surrendered themselves and the number had later increased to 64. A blockade also resulted in the arrest of four prisoners.
The prisoners stated that they were forced to flee during the terrorist attack because they were threatened to be killed if they did not escape. They said the terrorists planned to blow up the jail compound.
Police had earlier confirmed that Adnan Rashid – a former junior technician of Pakistan Air Force (PAF) allegedly involved in a plot to assassinate former military ruler Pervez Musharraf – was among the 384 prisoners who escaped from the Bannu Central Jail.
According to DIG Bannu Iftikhar Ahmed security at the jail has been tightened. The DIG had also suggested that mobile phone jammers be installed at the compound.
In the aftermath of the attack carried out on the Bannu Central Jail, Chief Minister Haider Khan Hoti suspended Inspector General of Police (IG) Bannu Central Jail, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Bannu Jail and Commissioner Bannu.

A single metal gate at maximum security prison housing hundreds of known terrorists? Is this some kind of a joke?
They came in a convoy of 25 cars!!!!!!!!!! An innocent citizen car is stopped 25 times by secuirty personnel in that area.
It's the fault of our judiciary also (especially CJ of Peshawar High Court) who called for the shifting of high-profile terrorists from Army internment centres to police jails which are highly insecure. Intelligence agencies expressed their reservations over the transfer of such high-value targets to insecure civilian jails. May be, our judciary wants to free all innocent Taliban so that they can resume their business again. Because judges are now travelling in bullet-proof cars and living behind the strong walls of judicial fortresses, they don't care if a petty number of terrorists succeeded to escape. Who cares?
wow can you imagine this, what a country we've become. Criminals in power, criminals on the loose.
What a joke! They cannot ensure security at a maximum security prison and have now invited an international cricket team (Bangladesh) for a tour promising them 'Maximum Security'. I hope the maximum security personnel do show up for the cricket tour at least! I just hope and pray for the sake of this country that nothing goes wrong in that proposed cricket tour!
Now you know what I used to repeatedly tell these secular morons. You can't even fight them, lest you dream of winning ...
Ok so... Were those missing officers a common thing? If not, that's a lot of Taliban insiders you should be busy arresting.
Lolzzzz.... "Government's Writ" ..... Lolzzzzzz!!!!
its not the fault of the IG central jail. Its the fault of the army that they did not go to help for 1.5 hours when the attack was going on
Heads should roll for this! Gen Zaheer ul Islam is ultimately responsible: he should be fired!
Or is Kayani also in cahoots with these Saudi sponsored terrorists - which wouldn't be surprising!
This country is a total write-off.
It's own "agencies" and security establishment are behind the terrorism in the country.
May God accelerate the needful, and bring this country to an appropriate end so that the people can breath a sign of relief.
Great....this is just great...now blame this unto ISI also...as it has become a fashion to pass the buck...let us see what action the govt takes against these absentees ?
"According to DIG Bannu Iftikhar Ahmed security at the jail has been tightened." For what ?? Nice joke.
