The police said an FIR will be lodged if the postmortem established that the dog was not rabid as claimed by Khadim Talpur, who killed it with a shot gun.
Talpur says the dog had been regularly attacking people in Umar Mallah village and making it difficult for people to pass. He maintained that he shot the dog when he was himself attacked on Wednesday during his morning walk.
Long Mallah, the owner of the pet, is a driver of Pakistan Peoples Party Badin tehsil's president Dr Aziz Memon. Under sections 428 and 429 of the code of criminal procedure, punishment ranges from two to five years.
