Masti Gate Katchi Abadi: Govt’s reply sought on plea

LAHORE: Chief Justice Sheikh Azmat Saeed of the Lahore High Court on Wednesday sought a reply from the Punjab government to a petition for ownership rights to property in the Masti Gate Katchi Abadi, moved by around a hundred people who have at least one blind person in their family. The petitioners submitted that several previous provincial governments had pledged to give them rights to the houses, which were located on an area of one kanal and 15 marlas, but the promises had not been kept.  The petitioners submitted that the Revenue Department had once offered to sell them the land for Rs50,000 per marla, but later withdrawn the offer. Now it had banned the sale or purchase of the said property.  They asked the court to set aside the ban and direct the government to give the petitioners ownership rights to the property.  The chief justice adjourned the hearing till June 19.
