MANCHESTER: Manchester United have played a record 162 Champions League (CL) matches and are appearing in their 11th quarter-final, also a record.

United have lost just 1 of their last 26 European home games in which they have kept 15 clean sheets. United have won their last 3 home games against German opposition but have failed to beat a German club at Old Trafford on 3 previous attempts in the CL knockout stage, losing 1-0 to Borussia Dortmund in the 1997 semi-finals, 1-0 to Bayern in the 2001 quarter-finals and drawing 2-2 with Bayer Leverkusen in the semi-finals the following year.

"It's a game with two clubs with great history and it puts an edge on the game. You cannot forget the record of Bayern in Europe," Ferguson told reporters.

Bayern have won 5 out of their last 9 CL away matches over the last 2 seasons, losing only 3. Bayern, whose only defeat in 8 matches against United was in their 1999 CL final when the Mancunians snatched an improbable late victory, have conceded only 1 goal on 3 previous visits to Old Trafford.

Bayern have lost only 2 of 6 CL away games in England but they did lose their last 2, both in the 2004-05 season against Arsenal and Chelsea. Those were their only defeats in the last 12 games against English clubs.
