PCNS finalises new recommendations: 'Force US to stop drone strikes'

JUI-F continues boycott of PCNS meetings, PML-N to take decision on recommendations after consultations.

ISLAMABAD:
The Parliamentary Committee on National Security (PCNS) on Tuesday finalised the new draft of recommendations regarding Pakistan – United States (US) relations, focusing on an additional clause that states, “force the US to stop drone strikes in Pakistan”.

Chairman of the all-party, bicameral PCNS Senator Raza Rabbani told reporters that the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F) continued its protest and boycotted the meeting today.

Pakistan Muslim League – Nawaz (PML-N) will now look at the draft and will take a decision on the recommendations after consultations, said MNA Mehtab Abbasi.

Sources in JUI-F told The Express Tribune that the party will not accept the new recommendations. “We have nothing to do with the new draft, we will continue our boycott,” said a senior party official.

The Parliamentary Committee on National Security (PCNS) is reviewing its recommendations regarding Pakistan’s terms of engagement with the US. The review came after the opposition said that some of the clauses were against the interest of the state.
