Public transport in Karachi was partially arrested whereas transporters in Peshawar remained divided over a fare list issue.
The strike was announced by the Karachi Transporters Association (KTA). Attendance in government and private offices was low due to the strike whereas the Matric board postponed today’s English paper.
Private schools remained open and private transport was seen on the roads.
President KTA Arshad Bukhari said they would remain on strike for an indefinite period if the POL prices were not reduced and they were not compensated for torched vehicles.
Public transporters in Nowshera, Mardan, Charsaddah and Dera Ismail Khan (DI Khan) were also on strike but transporters in Peshawar divided into two groups on the matter of non issuance of a new fare list.
Public transport and united transport participated, but Peshawar-Pindi transporters distanced themselves from the strike. Goods transport, truck owners and oil tankers associations also observed the strike.
