ISLAMABAD:

The Supreme Court passed an order on Saturday referring the Balochistan security issue to the prime minister, secretaries of establishment, interior, and defence as well as the governor and chief minister of the province for taking necessary steps.

A three-member bench of the apex court decided to resume hearings regularly in Islamabad from April 12 to ascertain the compliance of its directions.

“…Thereafter for further hearing, the case shall be heard at Quetta Branch Registry of this court,” the court order stated.

The court observed in its order that the “unfortunate aspect” of the case was that no thorough investigation had been conducted to draw a logical conclusion.

It further noted that while the accused were nominated in some cases, the possibility of their involvement in the cases was not ascertained.

For instance, in one of the cases pertaining to the murder of Jalil Reki, the matter was only pursued will the lodging of an FIR.

“When the police conduct an investigation without fear or favour, there is always a possibility to reach to a just conclusion,” the court stated.

The Supreme Court also expressed concern over the Karachi police’s progress report on the murders of Balochistan MPA Mir Bakhtiar Domki’s wife and daughter.

“Despite repeated directions, so far, no progress has been made and every time police authorities come forward with a request for extension,” the court said, while directing the IGP Sindh to appear before the court and explain the situation.

“We have pointed out to them that if they feel difficulty in conducting the investigation or they are not in a position to deliver, they should point it out to the court so we may pass appropriate orders against them and direct someone else the purpose of investigating the case,” the court order further stated.
