Suicide: Student jumps off college building
Ahmed took the drastic step because he failed in his examinations.
ISLAMABAD:
A student of the NUST College of Electrical & Mechanical Engineering on Friday committed suicide by jumping off the roof of a college building. The Tarnol police said Ahmed Javed, 22, died on the spot. They quoted his father, Muhammad Javed, as saying that Ahmed took the drastic step because he failed in his examinations. An official of the college administration, however, denied this. He said the boy had gotten a CPGA of 3.2 in the first year and he was doing well in studies. Asking not to be named, he said Ahmed wanted to go abroad to work alongside his brother in Saudi Arabia. “He asked his father to send him abroad many times, but he refused as he wanted him to complete studies,” he added. Ahmed’s body was shifted to Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences. His family does not want police action on the case, said a police official.
