Just a clarification about my views: I did not mean to endorse the act at all. I firmly believe that it is the lack of tarbiyah in our society which distances our children so much from their religion, that they are unable to seek to inspiration and hope in the dark hours of life, simply because we never teach them to do so in our blindness to make them better "professionals". This is what I meant by taking the "road less travelled," i.e. the one that the materialistic culture disapproves of but religion guides us onto that only.
indeed!.... i totally agree with maaz here.. being muslim we should thimk before acting... tell me this....did all those muslims who were being tortured to death in makkah at the time of holy prophet take SUICIDE as an alternative????? these are the facts that teach us to face our problems and think of positive solutions and not reaching a total DEAD END such as committing suicide.... i request all of the people commenting here to please discourage this act and not promote it by blaming the parents and society as they always want best for us and not the other way around.... ahmed javed was a very brilliant student as well as an excellent teacher to me and i respect him immensely and it is because of this that and i am unable to accept this news... therefore i say that these are wrong investigation results and that the truth is being kept in the dark by the institute for the sake of its reputation and those close to the deceased.... I REQUEST THE FAMILY OF SIR AHMED JAVED TO PLEASE TRY TO HAVE A FULL INVESTIGATION OF THIS MATTER AND I BELIEVE THAT YOUR SON CAN NEVER EVER DO SUCH A THING... PLEASE DONT DOUBT YOUR SON OF DOING SUCH AN UNETHICAL DEED....
I am ex student of eme. Although I understand the pressure from parents to get good grades but suicide is the alternative option????? We are wise enough in our maturity when we join nust. The reason to suicide is mainly link with parting away from religion! I am sorry to know about his demise but just imagine what he has done to his family in this world and to his after life??? Is that justifying to any of the comments above? No? Emotions should not overwhelm our decision making as it also becomes part of extremism! May God give us guidance.
I wish we could teach our kids to take the 'road less travelled' ...
I agree with HK! In the mad race to produce cogs for running the machinery of our capitalistic societies, we are simply getting ourselves rid of the 'human' element in our kids. This is what our schools, colleges and professional institutions are doing. Since childhood our institutions make sure to instill the spirit of competition in our kids which keeps on consuming them - eating them up from within slowly and gradually - till the get old. We really need to wake up from our slumber and realise that there are far more valuable things in life than just getting straight A's! I hope this incident shakes at least those people up who were related to Ahmed in some way.
He was my friend. A very close friend. As long as our society does not comprehend that students are not machines this will keep on happening. They label us only on two things: our gpa and our university. Our chracter, personality, morals everything comes second. You put two parents together the first question they'll ask each other is "where is your son studying?" You don't get straight A's you're immediately in trouble. Education has become everything. We can not even pursue a field we like because our parents or our society does not approve. I myself am obsessed with maintaining a good GPA because there is no other peaceful alternative.
My request to all you parents, teachers and families out there is simple. PLEASE understand we are not machines. We are humans. There is more to us than our GPA and our university. Our character should count more to you. What we do should count more than waht our report card reads. This is not the first suicide case nor will it be the last if you remain obsessed with our grades.
By this I do not mean to point fingers at any one from the family of the deceased. As yet I am unaware of the full true details but this is a general fact in our society. You have taken away all youth from our young ages and go on till students do something like this. WAKE UP!!!!! THINK! Please do not pressurize your children to always get A's. Not everyone can get A's nor should we have to be obsessed about it. You arre breeding an entire generation of type A personalities who will kill themselves in mere competition.
I know education is important. But is it more important to you than our lives and our youth? Is it important enough to pressurize students into such acts because this is the third incident this month! Maybe people will not agree to waht I say but parents, older members of society, you KNOW i am right! Question is will you change? Or will we have to shed tears on more such incidents?
A highly unfortunate incident! Why would such a brilliant student like him do such a thing?
These news reporters are such big story makers. Ahmed's brother is not in saudia, hes in america's state university. 2ndly his father never disagreed on him going abroad, ahmed jawed got 100% scholarship in the state university, where his brother is studying but he did not get the visa for america and so he willingly got into nust! he was happy anyway! there are big reasons behind, or i feel the school authority is hiding the truth!
