Pakistan-US ties: JUI-F adamant on not reopening Nato supplies

ISLAMABAD: Impressing upon fellow lawmakers that he is firmly against reopening the Nato supply route, with or without conditions, Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief walked out of the Parliamentary Committee on National Security (PCNS) meeting on Thursday.

Fazl said neither his party, nor the entire religious right, is ready to accept the decision of reopening the Nato supply route. If the government wants to go ahead with that, the reaction woulkd be “worse than expected,” he said.

Fazl, and some other committee members, also expressed their reservation over the announcement of $10 million bounty on Jamaat-ud-Dawa chief Hafiz Saeed.

The members deplored the ‘timing’ of the decision and said the US is still not interested in respecting Pakistan’s sovereignty, which is highly regrettable.

Earlier, chairman of the all-party, bicameral PCNS Senator Raza Rabbani welcomed Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) representatives back to the committee proceedings.

The PML-N had boycotted the committee’s sessions in protest against the recent fuel price hike.

Other committee members also lauded the prime minister for his initiative to call PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif and convince him to rejoin the PCNS proceedings.

Sardar Mehtab of the PML-N, however, walked out from the proceedings later, protesting against the petroleum price hike. PML-N’s Senator Ishaq Dar, who is an active participant of the PCNS, was not present during Thursday’s meeting either.

@ZKhan,

There can be no reopening of supply routes as it is anti-peace and anti-humanity. Those bullets go and kill innocent Afghan civilians who wish to be free and live with independence.

Reopening supply routes increases militant reactionaries. NO MORE WAR ON AFGHANS AND PASHTUNS! Period

Kayani needs to make strategic move and side with peace and independence of Afghanistan. If nothing else matters to him, at least he should think of his legacy not being tarnished like that of Mussharaf

No more war. Peace and Independence for Afghans

No supply routes and no drone attacks. No more involvement in this war that has caused 5 million Afghan deaths and 50,000 Pakistani deaths.

Peace and independence for the region. Dont be a slave Kayani

Conflict Monitoring Center of Pakistan has issued a report that has seen decrease in attacks on army and police by militants with the closure of supply lines, and the decrease in drone attacks. No need to be too smart to figure out that reopening of supply lines will reverse this progress towards peace and harmony.

Pakistan Military and Government have been making too much money by giving supply lines to NATO in Afghanistan and colluding with drone strikes on Pakistan. Very dirty money. Parliament has no choice but to reflect the aspirations and sentiment of the Pakistani public which with 99% certainty is opposed Pakistan involvement with and support for NATO and the reopening of supply routes to NATO. There can be no decision taken which violates the will of the Pakistani people at all, Period.

Afghanistan has a very good memory, and Pakistan should work towards peace in Afghanistan. By opening up supply routes to NATO, Pakistan is taking side against peace and independence of Afghanistan.

There can be no opening of NATO supply lines, and I dont think any politician is ready to make such an unpopular decisions, and the Army should not make unpopular decision, and try ti disperse it to government.

End of discussion. Pakistan should redeem itself, and support US exit from Afghanistan, and nothing else aside from peace talks that work towards that end. There can not be sincere peace talks if supply routes are reopened.

Finally, why are the air supply routes open?
