Botched attempt: Police foil terror bid outside Peshawar

PESHAWAR: Police on Wednesday claimed to have foiled a terrorist bid by defusing a bomb in the Achini area, on the outskirts of Peshawar, which borders Khyber Agency.

A policeman told The Express Tribune that Sarband Police SHO Fazale Maula was on routine patrol when his subordinates spotted a suspicious man scanning the area with his binoculars. When police tried to reach him, he not only fired at the police party but also hurled a hand grenade at them before fleeing the scene.

“Luckily, the grenade did not explode. When policemen inspected the area, a remote-controlled device was found,” he said.

SHO Fazale Maula told The Express Tribune that the device weighed around five kilogrammes and two mortar shells were attached to it. He said the bomb was later defused by the bomb disposal squad.
