LAHORE:

A drug testing laboratory, for which land and Rs50 million have been allocated by the Punjab government, is expected to be completed by June. The laboratory will be situated in the Sundar Industrial Estate.

This was stated on Tuesday by Special Assistant to the chief minister for Health Khwaja Salman Rafique while talking to a delegation of Pakistan Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Association (PPMA) at the Civil Secretariat, said a press release. The PPMA delegation was led by its president Amjad Ali Jawa. Secretary Health Punjab Captain (R) Arif Nadeem and other senior officers of the department were also present in the meeting. Rafique said that the drug testing laboratory would be an autonomous institution to ensure transparency. The decision, he said, had been taken by the chief minister after more than a hundred people lost their lives from taking pills from a tainted batch of Isotab.
