After receiving scathing criticism from transporters, traders and the general public, the government, it seems, has succumbed to the pressure and decided to retract the recent massive price hike in fuel prices.
Talking to the media after holding a meeting with President Asif Ali Zardari at Bilawal House in Karachi, Federal Minister for Petroleum Dr Asif Hussain revealed that the government was considering a cut of Rs2 to Rs3 per litre in petrol and Rs1 to Rs2 in diesel prices.
However, he said that a formal announcement would be made by the finance ministry.
“We took this decision in a bid to provide relief to consumers on the directives of President Asif Zardari. The government will bear the loss and a notification of the same will be issued soon,” he said.

Thanks to Musharraf for implementing the policy of rise and cut. Present Govt is also practicing the same policy "Show death warrant to people of Pakistan and then settle for fever". Meaning to say raise prices to unbearable level, if people retaliate be ready to cut down the prices to the level where it was targeted. People would be happy for cut down the prices raised earlier as the Govt listens to their protest. What can a dying nation do?
Same old strategy. Increase price and then decrease small portion of it. And then they will claim that WE ARE EMPATHIC to our VOTERS and WE are CONCERNED....
Let me try commenting again. If this reduction is back dated to 1st April.,when the increase came, it is necessary to know in whose pocket goes the difference in profit made over the 4-5 days - at least a few million if not more.
Well done and Mr.Gillani we all thank you from the bottom of our heart for reducing a HUGE amount of Rs..3.00 per liter of fuel. You are SO GENEROUS !!!!
@PAK 1. Its because of people like you, we are in this situation. I am sure, Zardari and his party will still get a lot of votes, despite doing massive corruption and doing nothing for the people of pakistan
3 Rs. decreasing per liter is nothing.Petrol and diesel prices must be reduced up to their previous prices.
Love you zardari
