KARACHI: The doctors of public hospitals will not go to work at the out-patient departments from today (Monday) in order to join a protest for promotions and raises. The protest was started by nurses and paramedical staff. The doctors have accused the provincial government of not following through on promises. It only promoted 547 out of over 10,000 doctors. The Sindh Doctors Tehreek’s Dr Muhammad Ali, Dr Nisar Ali Shah, Dr Shahid Qureshi decided on Sunday that they will come out to support the nursing staff at the protest outside the Karachi Press Club. Doctors will also hold their own protests and sit-ins. They said that thousands of doctors had been waiting for their promotions since 1994.
