ISLAMABAD:

A large number of families made their way to the Fatima Jinnah Park to participate in a meena bazaar organised by the Behbud Association on Sunday.

Eager mothers with kids in tow went from one stall to another with men in the family slowly following them around, not particularly pleased at having to wake up early on a weekend. The association had set up 105 stalls targeting people of all ages, according to the organisers.

Dozens of kids lined up around the face painting and food stalls, while women seemed more focused on buying clothes and Behbud’s famous handmade home accessories.

However, many were complaining about the increase in the prices of most items.

Azmat Akbar, who came to the festival with her children, said, “They should have done this on a better day, the weather is horrible and I am surprised to see how expensive things have become. The meena bazaars were known for low-prices, but that’s not the case this time.”

Behbud Association of Pakistan Vice President Sajida Afzal said that the 20-year-old festival has people who have been coming here since they were little children and it keeps on getting bigger every year.

Afzal said the event provides a great opportunity for women working from home to come and exhibit their work. She explained that the increase in prices was due to the increase in prices of raw materials.

Every thing in the country has gone expensive - even the Meena Bazaar.

Is this due to increase in the petroleum products? If this is the case, than things will get cheaper by 2 rupees, similar to the petrol.
