Revival of the civil services

Letter March 30, 2012
Civil servants must not surrender their rights of asking for surety in their tenure of posting and transfer.

ISLAMABAD: This is with reference to S Aman Rana’s article “Tyranny of the majority” (March 29). The writer has very aptly described the problems that civil servants face today. It seems that civil servants are responding to the challenges that Pakistan throws at them. The way they have taken a stance vis-a-vis political injustices meted out to them is indicated of an upcoming revival in the efficiency of the civil services.

The law should not only be there to prevent civil servants from being unfairly transferred or appointed Officer on Special Duty, but it should also be there to protect those who abide by the terms of their duties come what may. The Supreme Court should also be supported in its efforts to ask the establishment division to come up with a policy of protecting civil servants against political high-handedness.

Civil servants must not surrender their rights of asking for surety in their tenure of posting and transfer.
