Karachi unrest: ANP man’s killing stirs up violence

The ANP has called for a day of mourning on Thursday.

After a night-long lull, violence erupted again in the metropolitan city which saw on Tuesday a deadly bout of violence and arson triggered by the death of two Muttahida Qaumi Movement activists. On Wednesday, rioting started after the killing of an Awami National Party (ANP) activist in New Karachi.


ANP’s joint secretary for Patel Para, Zainul Abideen, died while Sajid Hasanzia was injured in an attack by unknown gunmen. As the news spread, aerial firing and rioting began again in the city.

As a result nine vehicles were torched and two more people were killed in Gulbahar and PIB Colony.

Firing continued till late in the night in Patel Para, Teen Hatti, Gurumandir, Banaras, Lasbella, Essa Nagri, Pehlwan Goth, Gulistan-e-Jauhar, Sohrab Goth, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Saddar, Lasbella and other neighbourhoods.

The ANP has called for a day of mourning on Thursday.
