NATO supply resumption: JI threatens to defy Parliament if routes reopened

Also demands govt to merge tribal lands removed from Mohmand Agency territory.

PESHAWAR: The Jamaat-i-Islami has said that it will forcibly block Nato supply routes if they Parliament decides to reopen them.

“A number of political parties are acting like US agents and promoting their anti-Islam agenda,” JI Vice President Sirajul Haq said on Wednesday, while addressing a public meeting in Ambar sub-district of Mohmand Agency.

The JI is mobilising the people against a possible resumption of Nato supplies through Pakistan, Haq said. “The Pakistani government imposed the war on terror on tribal regions on US instructions,” he said, criticising the incumbent government for price hikes and pervasive unemployment.

He said that Fata parliamentarians had sold their votes off in the March 2 Senate elections and the JI will not let that happen again.

Talking about disputed territory between Mohmand Agency and Charsadda district, JI Fata General Secretary Munsif Khan demanded that the government merge Michini, Tarakzai and Haleemzai tribes’ lands into Mohmand Agency again.

Feroze | 12 years ago | Reply Has the JI forgotten Pakistan has a democracy ? Defying parliament is tantamount to treason and no better then the Taliban. The CJ should take Suo moto notice and theatre leadership should be taken to task. No wonder they hardly get any seats in the assemblies!
