Party officials said the decision was taken during the executive committee’s meeting conducted to revamp the party’s constitutional document as per the recommendations of some its senior leaders.
PTI’s leadership will also deliberate over the party’s election process, which aims to centralise power from local offices and union councils. Sources say this is the party’s third consecutive meeting regarding the issue in which the leadership failed to chalk out and agree on a strategy to hold the party’s polls before the upcoming general elections.
A senior leader, requesting anonymity, said the PTI is unlikely to hold elections at the council level before the general elections.
The party has nominated pop singer Abrarul Haq as the president of PTI’s Youth Wing. The committee earlier opted for Javed Hashmi to be the party’s president, effectively making him second-in-command to chairperson Imran Khan.
Before this, Shah Mehmood Qureshi was the right-hand man of Imran, but he will now be third in the party’s hierarchy. Sources have revealed differences in the opinions of co-chairperson Qureshi and chairperson Imran Khan, but they have been denied by both leaders.
Imran, in his press conference on Sunday, said, “All the reservations of senior leaders have been addressed in a democratic fashion. We will hold the party elections at all costs.”
Imran said that elections for different office bearers will be held soon. “The different offices/positions will be decided within the next three months.”
He dispelled the impression that the elections would create rifts among the top leadership of the party.
The executive committee also finalised the schedule of the party’s membership campaign. The PTI claims to have inducted five to six million youth across the country in two months. The campaign is to be extended worldwide with overseas Pakistanis also allowed to participate in the party’s elections.
Imran said the party’s decision regarding its appointment of a chairperson, president, vice president and provincial leaders will be made through free and fair elections. “The PTI is a democratic party and its leaders will be chosen thorough a democratic process.”
Imran reiterated that all members would declare their assets before applying for a party ticket.
He added that he would introduce a local government system if he came to power so that “local political leaders could help to eradicate corruption at the grass-roots level.”

He has called everyone in the camp but hesitating to announce playing eleven. He knows once he does that, rest will run away to other camps. Smart move but trust in his ability is hurt.
@Azmat: This appointment is temporary. IK just wants an interim setup so that business as usual is not put on hold. During PTI elections, you can vote for whomever you think deserves the position!
Shall we trust Imran Khan or tribune. is there any reporting ethics?
Youth of PTI has a right to choose their own youth wing leader. We reject Ibrar ul Haq. IK should nominate some respected member. Our eldors are asking us that a singer will lead you. We need a responible, respectful Youth Leader. As we can not apporocah Imran personally, our comment should be convey to him.
This is false reporting.IK clearly declared in his press conference that party elections will be held at all costs. I hope ET improves its reporting standards
@Uza Syed: Certainly agree with you. Following is the press release from PTI office. Hope this helps.

I think he was closer to religious extremists in the past because he was married to a westerner- He was trying to mask his image. Now he has disassociated himself with them and trying to go mainstream after his divorce. Abrar ul Haq for youth wing- that is stupid. What do people think?
PTI gross-root level structure is in disarray. In every district, they have four groups which will confusion the voters . With such a weak structure , if he loses elections, he will blame Zardari and people of Pakistan for not having voted to so-called change rather than blaming himself for making the voters confused. These big political rallies will count for nothing if he doesn't put his house on order to compete with PPP and PML(N) which have strong workers' force at the gross-root level. It's well-organized workers that bring out voters on voting day not talking big !
@Faraz: Please clarify which party can bring real change?
The headline for this article is just factually incorrect. The plan was always to start a membership campaign on the 25th of March and after that hold elections. Where is the "delay" mentioned here?
Express tribune is a subsidiary of Herald Tribune which is basically a newspaper belonging to Rupert Murdoch. This kind of newspapers are used to safeguard and propagate american interests all over the English speaking world. Since Imran Khan has taken a hard line against Americans they create confusions regarding him. Lets hope that they dont succeed.
false information... please be more responsible next time.
This is the real news:
http://www.dawn.com/2012/03/26/imran-announces-intra-party-polls.html
One question to all PTI worker who will stand agaisnt Imran khan and who will stand against Makhdooms in there internal party election.
@Aardvaark...
Dawn is an authentic and reliable newspaper read by a large number of people in and outside Pakistan so they have to maintain certain editorial standards while ET is only a couple of years old and mainly restricted to readers mainly from anti-PTI people so they have to twist the news according to the wishes of their "donors"...
@ET...
please dont become another PTV.. it will be impossible for you to convince the readers of your free, fair and unbiased reporting after this attitude... as they say..bad acha badnam bura...so dont get urself badnam...
PTI is the only political party in Pakistan all the others are just fake parties now we are waiting for elections and all the public want to see their country free from zardari and all othrs liers ministers it is true everybody knows that our country is victim of many dangrous street crimes, shortage of everything, now we are become beggars, on the otherside we are not united, we are not true Pakistanis, in our country some are muslim ligi, sme are pipli, some are of M.Q.M, CAN WE ARE Pakistanis? think about it' i just want to say to my whole nation plz stope it, now be a true Pakistanis and just think about your country not about your parties be a good citizaen of Pakistan ,be a true Pakistani,

I think PML-N needs to learn something from PTI. Good going PTI
party election is vey good decision by pti this is real democrasy plm n and ppp are family limited party
ET ur quality is going down everyday and all the news are coming from unknown sources which in other words are called 'Rumours'
Yeah! Thats what I also heard in the press conference after CEC meeting. As usual the world go in one direction and ET goes in other :)
This is a classic example of yellow and false journalism. ET publishes blatant lies. what happened with shah mehmood joining nawaz league. Turn out to be false story as well. Here is what IK said after the CEC meeting:
Imran Khan’s Press Conference after CEC Meeting (March 25, 2012)

Think before you leap....Watch this press conference please http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DGZT9DbBSn4&feature=youtu.be
Abrarul Haq as the president of PTI’s Youth Wing——–great decision, bravo
and as day 90 arrives. "Sorry guys, there are some disagreements." It's usually best to do the inside consulting before speaking to the outside of things.
ET and PTI don't go together for sure
@Zoaib I agree...
PTI has the best Internet propaganda team that scours every single bit of Imran Khan news and immediately floods down any thing that seems to be against Imran. Truth be damned. Every voice of dissent is muzzled, and 100 defenders spring up. Too aggressive defense is a sign of something sinister.
ET have hired PML-N insider to leak PTI News :P
@Zoaib: ET is a biased media group with its agenda against Islam, Pakistan, Army/ISI oh but they love to support drone attacks, Corrupt Gov. and those who feel pride in becoming naked before camera's especially women (Veena Malik)
Imran is doing something not done before, and there will always be people working to sabotage this.
Imran keep going.....
Imran Khan, you have always boycotted elections, when you've felt that the Election Commission wasn't independent and felt like they weren't being held free and fair; case in point 2008 general elections and the Multan by-election earlier this year. You have also said, that under Zardari, general elections cannot be free and fair. What would you do Imran Khan, if Zardari indeed remains at the helm at the time of the general elections? Will you stand by your 'principles' and boycott the 2013 elections or will you compromise on your principles and participate in a sham election process? Dilemma!
well done et do not let any chance to defame pti
Local govt system...sounds familiar. When Mush did it, it was wrong but would be evolutionary with Imi Funny
First democratic party
Fakhra Yonus the victim of acid burning dies---she kills herself! The culprit of this assault by acid is son of a very well known "Feudal Lord" a former Chief Minister of Punjab Malik Mustafa Khar, the son himself has been MPA of Pnjab Assembly. Now, no politician is willing to take a position on this crime against a woman, simply because of her gender, no mullah would say anything! I want to know why Imran Khan and his folks inclusing all those champions, or wih to be champions of 'JUSTICE' (INSAF!) have to say about this situaion. Go public and take a position and let me and people like myself, who suspect your sincerety to your slogann (Insaf for all), want to see clear stand of this party PTI and its leaders.
I wonder whether these 'senior leaders requesting anonymity' are for real or just a figment of the reporter's imagination who is insistent to spread negativity?
P T I , is a modern and rapidly upcoming political party and it is facing different type of the challenges, from with in the party and out side the party. All the problems can be handled well only ;after being organized properly. All the organizational needs of the party must be fulfilled sooner because there is a little time left to the General Elections.
PTI is becoming the FIRST REAL democratic party in the Pakistan and It won't be easy.
ANd they are going to remove corruption in 9 Days--> What a Joke!
Hmmmm, introduce Local Government System, but isn't it the same which was implemented by a dictator?
See, he actually was not bad & doctorial then depicted by IK & the media......
Another try of "Change" is failed
Another failure of PTI Just "naray" No Real "Change"
This is not delay - this is systematic approach of giving every one chance to get membership and count them in nominating their leaders. This is new in the history of Pakistan and it is setting democratic precedent. All the best to PTI team.
How the news should be presented
http://www.dawn.com/2012/03/26/imran-announces-intra-party-polls.html
PTI will not win more than 5 seats in whole country.it is just a hollow movement under hollow ledership of IK created by illusioned establishment.the real "change" can only come through evolutionary democratic process.
This is just blatant lying - PTI's CEC has passed their constitution unanimously and elections are to be held over the next 3 months. ExpressTribune needs to get it's facts right and conduct discipLinary action against poor editorial checks. One hopes ET has no agenda.
Fair decision, the general elections aren't going to be held this year anyway, they should wait for a few months.
Abrarul Haq as the president of PTI’s Youth Wing--------Poor decision, disappointing
I wonder where ET gets its reports from. IK was very clear yesterday in saying that the CEC had decided after a lot of deliberation that there are going to be internal party elections, come what may. This is also what came out of PTI leaders on twitter, all of whom said that the CEC decided to hold elections within the party, which was a landmark decision. I wonder whom we should trust, the KNOWN PTI leaders or this unknown PTI official who ET is quoting here.
