Fight for your right: Rs50m given to KUJ by CM

KARACHI: Journalists have always remained in the forefront of the struggle for rights of the people, democracy and against dictators, said Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah while handing over a cheque of Rs50 million to the president of the Karachi Union of Journalists (KUJ) on Wednesday. The event was held at Chief Minister House, where KUJ’s central leader and editor of Daily Express Tahir Najmi, KUJ President G M Jamali and KUJ Secretary Fahim Siddiqui were present. According to the chief minister, media was the fourth pillar of the state as it fights for the rights of the people and behaves as a government watchdog. He said that the government was glad that the media pinpointed their mistakes and appreciated their good work. According to Sindh Information Minister Shazia Marri, this new relationship between the government and the media. She urged the print and electronic media owners to respect the journalists as they were an asset.
