Squash: Aqib upsets Farhan on opening day

Top-seed Atlas safely through in squash event.

KARACHI: Qualifier Aqib Khan pulled off the biggest upset of the 2nd FMC Pakistan International Squash Championship on its opening day when he beat Pakistan’s number two Farhan Mehboob 3-1.

While Aqib shocked Mehboob 12-10, 12-10, 12-14 and 11-8, top-seed Amir Atlas Khan was safely through in straight sets against Khawaja Adil Maqool.

Lahore’s Sheikh Saqib Yousuf continued with a 12-10, 5-11, 9-11, 11-7 and 11-2 win over Waqar Mehboob. Kashif Shuja survived a scare against Mansoor Zaman but managed to win 11-7, 7-11, 13-11, 9-11 and 11-9. Danish Atlas edged out Shoaib Hassan 3-2 while Farhan Zaman beat Nasir Iqbal with the same scoreline. Qualifiers Hamza Bukhari and Owais Khan downed Mohammad Shahnawaz and Waqas Mehboob 3-1 respectively.
