PTI rejects PCNS report aimed at reordering ties with US

PTI rejects report as “farce”, an insult to wishes of people to extricate themselves from US-backed war on terror.

KARACHI: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Wednesday rejected the report submitted by the Paliamentary Committee on National Security (PCNS) which aims at reordering ties with the United States (US).

PTI rejected the document as a “farce” and an insult to the wishes of the people to extricate themselves from US-backed war on terror which has become a “war on terror for Pakistanis,” said a statement issued by the party’s International Affairs Advisor, Dr Shireen Mazari.

PTI will not accept any compromise on the issue of drone strikes and resumption of Nato supplies, added the statement.

Leader of the Opposition Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan had also snubbed the report, saying that it had nothing "extraordinary" in it as the ideas it is upholding have always been everyone’s voice.

He had said that every government starts its reign with the same words.

Nisar had added that there was no point in drafting new policy terms as the government, as always, will fail to implement the recommendations.

The parliamentary panel had proposed that at least 50% of Nato containers travelling through Pakistan be handled through Pakistan Railways.

The recommendations further said that Pakistan should demand an unconditional apology from the US for the November 26, 2011 air attack on the Salala check post. It added that Washington should put a stop to drone strikes in tribal areas.
