Justice Nadeem Akhtar and Justice Shafi Siddiqui took oath as additional Judges of the Sindh High Court on Tuesday in a simple ceremony held at the Judges Library.
SHC Chief Justice Musheer Alam presided over the ceremony which was attended by all of the high court judges in Karachi, the deputy attorney general, advocate general, government’s law officers, and presidents of the SHC bar association, Karachi Bar Association and other senior lawyers. The total strength of SHC judges is now 14 but the total requirement is 40: 26 judges are still needed.
Chief Justice Alam said that broad-based consultations were under way with bar associations and the results were positive. He was talking to the media after the ceremony. He said he would meet the members of the Hyderabad District Bar Association as part of the consultation. Rest assured, the shortage of judges will end soon, he added.
