Campus violence: Peshawar University hostels closed after students exchange fire

Two factions of the Pakhtun Students Federation fired at each other at one of the hostels.

PESHAWAR: Police closed down hostels at the campus of the state-run University of Peshawar after two factions of a student organisation exchanged fire on Monday evening.

Panic spread at the campus when two camps of the Pakhtun Students Federation started firing at each other at the students’ B Hostel at the Peshawar Campus.

Law enforcement personnel stationed at the campus immediately rushed to the area and closed down the hostels, police said.

“We have sealed five hostels and are searching students’ rooms to recover weapons with the university administration’s help,” Campus SHO Salam Khan told The Express Tribune, adding that several members of both groups had been arrested.

At the time of filing this report, police and university administration were still searching the hostel.
