Speaking to the media at Karachi airport, Malik said that the people of Karachi will see action against the extortionists from today (Monday).
“I can’t give any deadline… but I vow that we will get rid of them [extortionists],” said Malik and added that he had come to Karachi on the instructions of President Asif Ali Zardari to provide relief to the citizens.
Later during his visit to the headquarters of Pakistan Coast Guard, the minister said that more than 150 extortionists have already been arrested, while an action has been initiated against those doing illegal businesses of mobile phones.
Illegal SIMs are also being blocked, he added.
Irked by remarks against President Zardari
Rehman Malik, commenting on Pakistan Muslim League – Nawaz (PML-N)’s campaign against President Zardari, appealed to the Supreme Court to take a suo motu action against negative remarks made on the president.
He advised Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif to respect President Zardari and ‘control his tongue’ next time he talks about him.
He added that the practice of giving out negative remarks against the judiciary as well as the forces should be prevented.
On deporting Osama bin Laden’s family
The minister said that the decision to deport former al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden’s family – currently being kept in Islamabad – is not in the hands of the government.
He added that only the court can take a decision in this regard.
Bin Laden’s three widows and 11 children were taken into custody last year after the May 2 raid by US navy seals in Abottabad which killed the al Qaeda leader.

The great Mr Rehman Malik is here once again to solve our problem. Atleast he agrees that there is.extortion in the city.Like so many problems that he has solved, he will use his magic wand to solve this problem as well.Great going Mr.Rehman, if you can stick it out a little more there won't be any more problems left for us to worry about. However Mr. Rehman we are so used to these problems that we will start worring about getting them back. Will u help us then?
this man should go to balochistan often where issues are more severe
After 18the amendment, what is the point to handle every micro issue related to security through Federal Home Minister. What is then utility of provincial Home Minister? Was it all fake 18th amendment and provincial autonomy. PPP is so called champion of provincial rights then why Mr.Rehman is intruding time and again into the affairs of Sindh. Stop controlling Sindh from Center, use Home Minister Wassan, if he is incompetent, replace him with better candidate. Otherwise people of Sindh will rightly consider 18th amendment a cosmetic change and fraud in the name of provincial autonomy.
haha he sounds like a superhero from one of those action man comics. Well, in fairness to him, he did put an end to the targeted killings in Karachi a while back. He does well to keep MQM under control.
After KU, NED will present him Hon. Doctorate for getting Khites out of this extortion thing!!!
When SC was sitting in Karachi the same Interior minister claimed that over 50 extortionist have been arrested and they will be presented to the media people. They were presented on TV channels but with their faces and then after SC shifted back to Islamabad these extortionists were released to run their business again so that they can support their patrons financially in the coming elections.
How can he do anything when PPP is hand in glove with MQM?
As per SC findings, both of these parties and ANP have militant wings.
