Football: WAPDA edge out PPWD to go through to semis

KARACHI: Wapda qualified for the semi-final of the National Challenge Cup after edging out PPWD 3-2 in their last-eight encounter, while Navy prevailed over Army on penalties 4-3.

Mohammad Hussain scored the opener for PPWD before Wapda captain Arif Mehmood levelled with a 49th-minute strike. Manzoor Ahmed found the net five minutes later before Mehmood found an opening in the 85th minute to complete his brace.

PPWD managed to score through a Mohammad Jan strike but it came in the third minute of injury time.

In the other match, Navy and Army failed to score as extra-time also remained goal-less. However, Navy prevailed on penalties to progress to the last-four.

National champions KRL will face KPT and KESC will take on National Youth A (under-19) team today to decide the remaining two semi-final spots.
