What is also significant is that the two major parties in the country have acted together to move the unanimous resolution — which was tabled by the PML-N, but passed with the full support of the PPP. The ruling party also facilitated highlighting the matter on the last day of the current National Assembly schedule, though it was not part of the initial agenda. A bipartisan committee is to be set up to determine the details and decide how to proceed, with equal representation from the PPP and the PML-N.
We could be witnessing a truly historical moment. Much disturbance to our democratic system has been caused over the past decades by actions planned and manipulated by the agencies. The parliamentary will to break free of this may be a key step into a new era. We must hope this is indeed the case, and that we can move into an age where the elected leaders of the country make the most important decisions rather than outfits which follow an agenda.

ET wants to bring entire policy making in the hands of the corrupt politicians so that west can easily manipulate them for making a policy which suits them. Thanks ET you are proving to be a partner of international Herald tribune (washington post).
ISI and MI must be held accountable by the elected representatives of the citizens of Pakistan. As should the GHQ. For more than 50 years the khakis have been lording over us and telling us what the 'national interest' is. They in fact sell us the 'military's interest' as Pakistan's 'national interest'. Henceforth, we the People will define national interest as 100% literacy, civilan dominance over army, eradication of disease, poverty and hunger. Trade. 0% unemployment, balanced federalism among the federating units, and rule of law. And F-16s, tanks, defence housing authorities, unnecessary wars and pangaas with neighbors will either disappear or take a back seat.
Congratulations. This is exactly what India and United States want. For Pakistani people to turn against the very people who are protecting Pakistan.
Very bravely ET has entered the uncharted waters of free press domain in Pakistan. There is a hairline difference between biased and unbiased reporting. I appreciate the courage and integrity of this effort......BRAVO.
This term DEEP STATE must have been coined in RAW or CIA HQ.
I do not believe in this.
Army should post their best officers in Int setups of Balochistan and take out mediocreone to achieve better results.
A nice and balanced Editorial, thanks a lot for that. It is obvious why the deep state has been bad mouthing the democracy for so long. If allowed the elected reps would make meaningful changes and the curse of hidden hand would be gone. That is the reason so many mullah/military touts hate democracy.
