In Memoriam: SIUT plaque for Dr MRA Hashmi

KARACHI: Relatives of the renowned Dr Mir Rehman Ali Hashmi unveiled a plaque in his name at a memorial event organised by the Sindh University of Urology and Transplantation (SIUT) on Tuesday. Doctors and civil society members recounted Hashmi’s contributions to the healthcare system and medical education in the country. Dr Azra Raza of the Columbia University Medical Centre, New York, presented the MRA Hashmi Memorial Lecture on “Decoding cancer: Armed with genomics, the end is in sight.” SIUT director Prof Dr Adibul Hasan Rizvi, Workers Party president Abid Hasan Minto and Human Rights Commission of Pakistan chairman I A Rehman recalled Hashmi’s commitment to bringing social justice in the country. Husain Naqi, S M Naseem, Baloch progressive leader Dr Hayee Baloch and others also spoke on the occasion.
