Chaos at court: Lawyers know how to get it done

Lawyers went unruly as JM sentences women lawyer for fraud.

KARACHI:

A group of lawyers created a scene at a magisterial court and misbehaved with the Judicial Magistrate, East, and the judicial staff, victims and eye witnesses said here on Tuesday night.

According to details, JM East Javed Iqbal Malik convicted and sentenced a woman lawyer, Zeba and her husband Hammad. They were ordered to serve a prison term of two years for defrauding one of their clients. As the court staff proceeded to remand the accused to prison, members of Karachi Bar Association were informed of the verdict. A band of 40 or more lawyers reached the court of the Judicial Magistrate and manhandled the staff as well as the judicial officer.

The JM brought the incident to the notice of the District and Sessions Judge, East, who immediately asked ADJ Obaid Hamza Khan to look into the issue. ADJ Obaid later suspended the sentence and admitted them to bail against a surety of rupees 100,000 each.

Honorary Secretary of KBA, Khalid Mumtaz told the The Express Tribune that he was not aware of any details about the incident. The court have powers to try and decide the cases and the accused have the right to bail, he said adding that unless he has full details, he could not comment on the incident.
