KARACHI: At least three students sustained minor injuries in a brawl between two student groups at the Federal Urdu University of Arts, Science and Technology’s (FUUAST) Gulshan-e-Iqbal campus on Tuesday.

The clash broke out between Awami National Party’s student wing Pukhtoon Students Federation (PSF) and Jamaat-e-Islami’s wing Islami Jamiat-e-Tulaba (IJT) over a dissident activist of the PSF who had joined the IJT a few days back, The Express Tribune has learnt.

The clash resulted in the suspension of all academic activities inside the campus, including annulment of examinations scheduled to be held on the day.

According to a university official, the activists of PSF thrashed their former activist inside the campus upon which they faced retaliation from IJT’s side. However, the Rangers personnel deployed at the campus reacted promptly and baton-charged the activists to disperse them, said the official.

As the activists withdrew, few gunshots rang out from the campus, prompting the Rangers to take the involved activists into custody.

At least four PSF activists were reportedly detained by the Rangers from the campus premises.
