SUKKUR:

A demonstration by doctors at the National Highway in Jacobabad resulted in the arrest of five protesters, and injuries to five others on Monday.

Members of the Pakistan Medical Association’s (PMA) Jacobabad chapter were pressing for the release of their colleague, Dr Anwar Wagan, who was arrested over his alleged involvement in the kidnapping of a Hindu girl, Asha Kumari, three days back.

Police officials reached the spot and asked the doctors to end their blockade of the road, but after their refusal to follow suit, started baton charging them. The arrested doctors included Gul Mohammad Buriro, Ghulam Sarwar Solangi, Mohammad Hanif Talani and Sadiq Lashari.

PMA Jacobabad general secretary Dr Liaqat Abro told The Express Tribune that Dr Wagan had nothing to do with Kumari’s kidnapping, and that the police were detaining him without registering any case. However, all the detained doctors, including Wagan, were later released on the orders of Jacobabad SSP Zafarullah Dharejo.
