After CM’s notice, team formed to arrest suspect in three days

RAWALPINDI: Their attempt to approach the chief minister (CM) during the inauguration of Chandni Chowk flyover did not go in vain.

The Inspector General of Punjab Police (IGP) constituted a three-member team on Sunday to arrest the suspected killer of Shahjahan Begum’s two daughters. He also visited her house and assured her of taking due action against the police officials responsible for restraining her from meeting the CM on Saturday.

The three-member team will be headed by Superintendent of Potohar Town Police Raja Muhammad Basharat and has been tasked with arresting the suspect within three days.

Begum and her daughter Sobia Naz, however, were dissatisfied. They said they want to discuss the matter “only” with the chief minister.

“We have been left at the mercy of the local police once again; we don’t believe in the police anymore as they have not been able to catch the killer in nine months,” said the aggrieved mother.

On Saturday, Shahjahan and Sobia, along with one of their male relatives, were detained by the police in the guard room of Pir Mehr Ali Shah Arid Agriculture University. The detained women alleged they were harassed by lady constables.

They were attempting to approach the Punjab CM Shahbaz Sharif to demand the arrest of the suspected killer of their daughters. According to the mother, her daughters Saira Naz and Saima Naz were killed by Asad Ali in a brazen armed attack on June 20 last year.
