Speaking at a press conference in Islamabad on Sunday, Imran said PTI became a different party after October 30, 2011. “PTI went through tremendous change, it was a different party before [Lahore rally] and became totally different afterwards” he said.
In order to end this confusion, Imran said that PTI has decided to start an organised nationwide membership campaign aiming to target 4,000,000 members. He further added that his party will make the campaign plan public in a few days time.
According to Imran, these new members will in return elect all the PTI leaders, including him.
“There will be elections from grassroots level to the top to ensure that PTI leaders are elected and not favoured,” he said adding that this will end family-based politics in Pakistan.
He further said that his party will make PTI an institution that will not be Imran’s party but an entity which will continue working fairly even without him.
While dispelling rumours of conflict amongst the party’s top leadership, Imran said none of the party leaders were planning to switch over to Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N).
When enquired about the absence of Shah Mehmood Qureshi and Javed Hashmi, Imran said that Qureshi could not come because of the death of a close friend’s son, while Hashmi is in the US for a fundraising campaign for PTI.
The 20th Amendment
PTI Chairman said the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and PML-N have agreed upon the 20th amendment to hide each other’s corruption. “The Asghar Khan case has proven who took money from the ISI,” he added.
He reiterated the point that his party has no links with the establishment.
Imran also said that Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani is in power only to protect corrupt people.
‘Blood sucking senators’
Calling the recent senate elections a fraud, Imran said the new senate comprises of “blood-sucking senators.”

@Much Amused: It will roll out if he announces Rural Land Ceiling and that he will distribute the excess land free to the landless poor. That will the beginning of distribution of resources on an equitable basis. We have to correct this wrong done by the Brits. The Punjabis and Sindis poor have no history of rebellion they are pliable slaves. Get them out of slavery. Announce freedom for all. That is what will create a Tsunami. Forget about collecting vaderas and choudhries in the party, reach the poor man on the street and in the farms and villages. Are you listening Imran. If you fail, nothing is likely to come up again to change the status quo.
@Tehreek-e-Insaf FATA:
This is a good decision. Because people started feeling that PTI was getting hijacked by feudal lords, turncoats, and influential persons. Party elections would help to restore the party to its core idealogy.
I agree with one of the comments that Imran has to focus on rural areas. He is not much known there, his tsunami has to be taken to the rural belt,it is daunting task for Imran and his party. Hope he has a team to guide him for undertaking this uphill task.
We are with you Khan saab keep moving towards the real demacrocy in pakistan ..
Love PTI
InshaAllah we are getting closer by day to achieve our goal and see a prosperous pakistan under the leadership of khan sahib ;-)
4 million in a population of 180 million? That's it for tsunami to come?
The fact that PTI has admitted mistakes is a first for Pakistani politics and a positive sign.
Best of Luck with the reorganization exercise and the upcoming membership drive. Announcing a new manifesto with workable timelines for real change should now be a top priority for Mr. Khan.
The only politician Pak has ever seen, who admits his mistakes, UNLIKE others!
@Ch Allah Daad: It will remain your wishful thinking. Lets talk on Mehran Bank Scandal what you say on it? i am preparing a video on this soon i will give you link, okay. Have you heard the song Mr. Frau D A?
IK great only your party is in opposition.
IK has been long on promises but short on actual deliveries. The expectation level of his idealistic urban "youth" followers is very high - they expect miracles from IK. It will be unfortunate for democracy in Pakistan if IK keeps promising more than he can deliver.
ET came up with poor substance for the daily quota of PTI bashing
What a great step towords democracy.I salute this move.
Imran Khan real Champion of Democracy,
It is all fine good intentions. But Imran where is your land reforms plank? Without genuine land reforms you just cant bring any change. The injustice done to peasants by the Choudhries, vaderas, sardars and landlords has to be undone. Even after 1947 they are slaves. Why? Because we did not have leadership from grass roots. It was the elitists that ruled Pakistan. They made laws to subjugate the poor and keep their wealth in Swiss banks.
For God's sake promise people Rural Land Ceiling say 50 acres max including 14 acres max for land under a canal or irrigated. Without this you will see the same faces in National and Provinicial Assemblies. If you do not want to perpetuate status quo you have to do this Sir otherwise even if you became PM, so what? You will enjoy power but will not necessarily deliver.
Take the wind away from the sails of the landlords and other capitalists that make it to the parliament with their lands and money and render it a dummy Parliament. I hope at least you understand this. Although this should have been in the manifesto of every single party.
HOW DISGUSTING IS THIS TRIBUNE?
This is simply ignorant, you're title is very deceitful to the reader! the influx of people into PTI was not what the press conference was about it was about the membership campaign which you did not even mention!! this is ridiculous! I will boycott ET from now on as well as unlike it from facebook and stop following it on twitter and even tell my friends to do so the same! disgusting and bias journalism will get you no where!
STOP THIS IMMEDIATELY!!!!
This is a problem, but a good problem to be in!
PTI has been flooded with hundreds of thousands of members, millions even. That is an indication that things have changed, next elections results will prove that.
Imran Khan is the only real leader in Pakistan. And by the way shame on to E tribune always biased towards Imran Khan.
Mr. Asif Zardari should take Mr Imran Khan In as an apprentice for a crash course in Pakistan Political Science. With AZ's superior political skills and IK's thus far non corrupt mindset we will have a super leader.
I wonder if Imran is planning to pull a Lee Kuan Yew on Pakistan. For those who don't know, Lee ran as a communist in Singapore, and as soon as he was elected, he turned into a Fascist Capitalist.
@Sky: It is the level of desperation. He had to mention that SMQ was busy dealing with a suicide "to prove" that SMQ had not left him. The sad state of affairs is that only SMQ can g'tee seats for IK - not beacuse of PTI ideology but beucause SMQ is Piri Landlord.
@Sky: To mention that suicide was disgusting. IK should apologise. Imagine if that hapened in your family and IK disucsses it all over national TV.
Just the level of desperation by IK to show that SMQ is with him.
Wonder if some Senator can take IK to court for the defamatory remarks that he has made?
Check..... IK should not have mentioned about a personal comment about some one suicide in the news conference.
@Ch Allah Daad: agreed that you are an IK basher....but save your bashing for a true blunder....just ridiculing IK on evert topic makes you ridiculous.
That's nice, isn't it. Since the members will be elected, it will also remove the tension in the party between old and new. What is important though is how PTI conducts this election in fair and free manner.
Atleast they admit they weaknesses. I can see this party bringing new traditions in politics. Proving itself to be a Party of change.
Every new leader that promises change needs to be evaluated, and re-evaluated especially by his most ardent supporters. What we see in PTI supporters instead is self-delusion apologetics and revisionism to deflect tough and legitimate questions. The best argument for IK is that he is the lesser of all evils. Sorry, not good enough. That was the same argument for Gaddafi, for our military dictators, and in the most recent American context, for Mitt Romney. The health and efficacy of any movement lies not in a leader but in those who decide to follow him. IK is a bull in a china shop and needs to be reigned in. Only his advisors and supporters can do this. His organization needs to be more streamlined, his vision needs to be more consistent, his temperament needs to be more statesmen like. He's a tactical politician, not a strategic one. PTI is losing momentum, and I think alot of it has to do with a lack of self-reflection within the party itself.
Good Decision, Elections are now delayed. Party might as well spend the time making local organization and making the party strong. All the opportunist will leave. No shortcuts in this party.
Go imran khan and we are with you..
@THE: True!! Dawn News:"PTI to launch nationwide membership drive within 10 days" thts a positive way to put it..
A right move to keep PTI's rivals mouth shut and force them to follow the suit.
@ET,
Again proving biased by putting this confusing heading. At this point in time we dont need Masters [Zardari, Nawaz etc] but Friends Imran Khan & PTI
Excellent step by PTI. Some will criticize, some may say "how is that even possible?", some will say that it is too late, some others may start making fun. But, Imran Khan has once again proved that he is not compromising ON his vision. Well done Imran Khan! Lets hope for the best!
Poor Imran, he means good, he wants to do good, but can't find the way. There are so many hurdles in the present system. Elections whether intra party or national elections are unproductive because there are thousand and one ways to manipulate and influence it. We need a paradigm change. Maybe choosing our leaders and reps through competitive exams somewhat like CSS but modified for the purpose, could prove the answer.
PTI got too many lotas from the Establishment and so that is why got out of control. Now things will be normal. hehehe
Yeah Cheezzz....
Can you expect Zardari or Mian Sab to hold such elections in there Companies ohh i mean parties..
Where did he say ' out of control' ? The fact is that he has announced a very important and plan of elections within the part and that would have been appreciated. But instead, the editor of this article decided to put is own thoughts fwd, and give it a headline which does not make any sense. And the IK haters , without probably watching the video or reading the news are constantly commenting on the headline, something which he never said. What a shame really.
Now that's like true leaders are..
Now if this is what IK gives to the Nation, it would be the greatest service rendered by any politician to the Politics of the country. Presuming that everything planned is free, fair, impartial and unbiased.
@MUNIB: A) you dont make much sense B) I said ill vote for PTI for a change C) I am not dying of hunger
@Jamshed: 4 million is a lot more than 1 million even if your economic news/problems make those numbers seem like nothing. How old is the party? How long did it take for the 1 million? Why is 3 million more just going to appear out of nowhere?
A good step announced by a visionary leader. IK is serious and he is proving it. Other are just good speakers but no actions when it comes to public issues.
@sick of this nonsense its strange that you remember what establishment did against ZAB BB but you forgot what they both did along with the establishment. Your views clearly show you are a biased person who cant face truth. Just because you are from Sindh , means you will vote for this corrupt PPP means you are corrupt yourself and you IN REALITY dont want change. BB was killed by the very same terrorists (Talibans jihadiz) she promoted herself along with the same establishment you cant stop bashing about.
insan jo dusrun ke sath kerta hy vahi bhugatta hy . . . Bhutto ne awaam ko bewaquf banay (because he was good in speeches) or baad mei Feudals ke sath hogaya or MULLAH ke sath hogaya (remember the law against ahmadiz ? ) or esi ka maza chakh lia phir baad mei enhi mullah hath , same is with BB
Vote for IK if you want change and if not , esi tarah next 60 years bhookey martey raho
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf is a rising political force. Due to incompetence of parties in power, people of Pakistan are fed up and they want a change. PTI will definitely bring change in the lives of the people as it is not a traditional party. Imran Khan can feel the pulse of the masses and he will act accordingly. The party is still passing through the evolution phase and all the confusions will vanish with the passage of time.
I really don't understand the pessimistic approach of most of the folks here. lets admin that PTI is the only option this country is left with in the current (So Called) Democratic system. Even if they give worst performance by their standards, it would be 100 times better than what PPP and PML(N) has to offer.
Its ok for the ET to twist the title of this video as its attracting even the IK haters to watch the video..
Owning fault is not with our politicians, everybody has a long tongue,Imran has the courage to own and will bring the change,we will vote for him.
Elections? Imran will boycott his own party's elections.
So you chose to cut the video right when he starts explaining what they are doing to bring the party back into control? Sorry to say, but sometimes your team displays an outright bias against Khan. Objective criticism would be better, and you would find that it would be better accepted by PTI's membership. Sensationalism sells, but its not what Pakistan needs right now.
This shows that Imran Khan is open to new ideas. I will wait and see if he replaces himself if votes are cast against him though.
I'm sorry to say this but seems that PTI supporters have turned deaf (the are certainbly not dumb but they have turned deaf),. PLease hear the last minute of the clip about IK admitting that PTI is going out of control rather than hurling abuses at ET for misreporting,
@Much Amused: I'm from Hyd, coming from a long line of PPP supporters but I have decided to vote for IK for a change however you are right, we Sindhis get too sentimental when it comes to Mohtarma Shaheed and rightly so. Logic tells me to vote for IK but when ever I see an old speech of ZAB or BB or think how the establishment have tried to destabilize their governments and yet how bravely they stood up to challenges and how they were cruely taken away from us, it leaves me with an intense feeling of "Bhuttoism". BB was our Sindh's daughter and nothing can change that, Good luck to IK sahab by bringing in Tsunami if he continuously bad mouths the Bhutto regimes as he wont get any votes from here then.
PTI already have around 1 million members through its SMS campaign ... and i think all voting will be electronic .. thorugh sms .. and once PTI is successful in attracting 4 million members .. i think game will be over for other parties ..
@Shah: Try yes. Tsunami boast no.
And the next thing he would say Party got out of control, lets make a new party and boycott the 2012 general elections
An excellent decision by the PTI leadership, will go a long way in setting a precedent of democracy within our political parties in Pakistan while also re-enforcing the trust of the youth in PTI and its leadership. In addition this will also help PTI select the right candidates for elections, those that truly represent PTI youth's aspirations and would lay to rest fears of anyone HIJACKING the party.
ET where he admits the statement, which is your title???
Its written in our constitution that any political party must have to do internal elections otherwise they cannot participate in general elections... but unfortunately no one follows anything ... if PPP and PMLN will not do internal elections they will be dis-qualified for general elections by election commission... its must!
but ppp and pmln are selecting the chairman instead of electing.. ...
Tribune, You are misrepresenting headline ... Biased Tribune
If Imran khan managed to form his Government (just saying :) ) the next thing u will hear from him is "Country got out of control, sorry"
@humayun khan: please enlighten us how religious parties hijacked PTI ?? i consider it a incompetency of khan, he dont know how to play politics and take political decisions at right time, his unilateral decisions (taking in the looters, corrupts and boycott of By-election) brought the party in such condition
At least PTI did that, unlike others. Appreciate the fact.
@humayun khan: Are you admitting the "religious fanatics" have outsmarted IK in political savvy?
hehehehe khan sb politics is not a game of cricket
IK is not hypocrate like others.. at least have guts to accept problems in the party
The issue with PTI supporters is that they get charged up emotionally too fast and if you tell them to cool their heads and think in terms of implementation and practicality, they would start denouncing (even abusing) you. There is a chronic and severe shortage of cool heads in our country followed by the shortage of electricity.
The much fabricated confusion by the rival's baseless criticism was bound to vanish. A great initiative taken by Imran Khan. Lets see now how people try to malign it - check the heading of the article for instance, they never paid attention to the positive part of the speech.
Tsunami hangover. If he follows his announced route now and moves fast then Mr Khan does need to be taken seriously. But he needs the leaders before he can reach out to 4 million individuals while he says he needs those 4m people to elect the leaders. Its a Catch-22. Can't figure it out Mr Khan? Hire some sharp minded strategists like Prez.Obama's David Axelrod & Co.
Did IK Said ''PTI got out of Control''???? He just said ''PTI went through Tremendous Change''... GOD,please Show ET right path........
How ridiculous is this - the content of this video is about his election campaign, and somehow its titled "Out fo Control" Lahore Rally? Tribune, where are your editors?
Pti is only geting support of people.they cant do for pakistan. I dnt like aise hi awam mei halchal machany ka irada hai.
Mentor is retired, now its in reverse gear. Its the only political party in the world which rose and finished before elections.
Express Tribune is really good...the heading which readers has no connection with given content.....Is this Punjab group of collges old tactics?
Good step, will restore the confidence of the people in PTI.
@Much Amused: So thismeans no one should try as well. Lame
yes,PTI has been hijacked by the religious fanatics who run everything now.PTI is held hostage by the rightwing religious extremists who are using imran khan's cricketing achievements to spread their own regressive religious ideology.
Great, this is the real party. IK the next PM
Where did he admit PTI got out of control? ET you just need your daily dose of Imran Bashing and this is all you can offer.
Great. Grass root movement is the key. Political awareness is important and people need to realize that clowns will keep ruling the country if people don't make the right political choices.
Excellent! PTI all the way!
How will PTI recruit members from the rural areas. These poor people are controlled by their wadheras, landlords, sardars, feudals etc etc. They will be forced to vote for their lords. As such PTI will have a tough time winning any parliamentary seats from these areas. Karachi, Hyderabad etc are in MQM and PPP hands. PTI cannot win any seats from there. So how will the sunami roll out? Does not look plausible at all.
Now thats called a DEMOCRATIC PARTY.
