Thinking schools

LAHORE: This is with reference to your report “LGS girls win NASA competition” (August 4). Generally the education system in Pakistan does not produce creativity and a research-oriented mindset among its students. It’s good to know that students from a school in Lahore have won a competition at the international level that requires imagination, application of knowledge, and creativity.

While the school in question may not be representative of the overall education system in Pakistan, it does indicate that if given the right kind of educational environment the youth in Pakistan have the brains to be amongst the best in the world. The LGS students who won the competition deserve more than just appreciation. They deserve to be provided further encouragement and an environment to enable them to gain more knowledge and apply that knowledge creatively for the benefit of their country in particular.
