MIRANSHAH: Seven security personnel were killed when militants attacked a vehicle in North Waziristan on Friday.

Military sources said that the security forces were attacked in the Khar Qamar area around 1pm today. Sources said that an operation was launched after the attack and security forces were "engaging the militant hideouts". However, the situation is unclear.

The areas of North Waziristan are under a fragile peace truce, with multiple splinter militant organizations operating there.

The area is considered to be a "no-go zone" for journalists.

The incident is part of a series of militant activity in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and FATA since the start of 2012, and has disrupted peace in the area after a period of temporary calm.
