Karo-Kari: SHC throws out FIR against couple

A woman from Tando Muhammad Khan in Hyderabad district has acquired protection from the Sindh High Court against a false FIR and harassment by police and family.


Momal married Ghulam Haider Shah, a resident of Sujawal, of her own free will.

Her father, Abdul Qadeer, enraged by her audacity lodged an FIR, alleging that Ghulam Haider Shah kidnapped his daughter and also took away gold ornaments.

The families held a jirga and declared the couple karo-kari and started hunting them down. Jolted to the hilt, the couple pleaded before the court to protect their lives as they were being hunted by the tribesmen and police separately.

The bench comprising Justice Fasial Arab and Justice Aqeel Ahmed Abbasi legally wedded the couple ordered threw out the FIR.

The court issued notices to the officials for March 30.
