Bangladesh chief selector Akram Khan resigned from his post yesterday citing interference by Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) President Mustafa Kamal in team selection for the upcoming Asia Cup.
Khan quit a day after Kamal rejected the inclusion of opener Tamim Iqbal – who happens to be Khan’s nephew – from the 14-man squad for the One-Day International tournament starting on Sunday.
“Iqbal was in our team because he is one of the best batsmen Bangladesh have, but Kamal dropped him from the final list,” said Khan. “The president’s regular interference in team selection has made top players worry about their place in the national squad.”
