MADRID: A Spanish imam near Barcelona is under investigation after allegedly calling on the faithful to “discipline” errant wives using physical and psychological violence, police said. The imam in the city of Terrassa is under investigation for “disseminating discriminatory messages and violating the principle of equality and of women’s right to physical and moral integrity,” police said in a statement.

@American Desi: minority affairs are not higher than humane and humanity....secondly, nowhere in the Quran it says you should abuse, physically or psychologically any person, specially your wife....if she is not according to a man's expectations, a wife can be released/divorced from her obligations.....unless of course it seems you still want to back to the times of Jahiliya with your practice of upbraiding a wife
Is not it meddling in minority affairs and suppressing the religious and pious? Is not it sanctioned by the Holy Quaran? We are not talking the innocent wives but the ones which need upbraiding! It will take a long time for "Ummah" to climb out medieval hole.
Salute to Barcelona for not bowing down in front of religious bigotry. Wish out country had the same guts!
