KARACHI: Unseeded Pakistan cueist Abdul Sattar cruised into the quarter-finals of the Seven-Nation International Snooker Tournament and will lock horns against favourite Hossein Vafaei Ayouri today.

Meanwhile, Pakistan’s top-seed Mohammad Asif faces India cueist Yasin Merchant in a mouth-watering battle after topping his group.

Mohammad Sajjad will face Egypt’s Mohamed Ibrahim Mohamed in the third quarter-final, while another last-eight clash will be an all Thailand affair with second-seed Thepchaiya Un Nooh taking on fifth-seed Noppon Saengkham.

In the last session of the day, Sajjad registered a crucial 4-0 victory over compatriot Vishan Gir to cement his place in the last-eight.

In the morning session, Ayouri defeated local player Perwani 4-0 with a century break in the third frame, while Un Nooh overpowered Sajjad 4-1, recording the highest break of the tournament of 129 so far.

However, the most gruelling match of the day was between Merchant and Paksitan’s second-seed Sultan Mohammad before the Indian cueist prevailed 4-3, winning with frame scores of 68-60, 21-53, 72-43, 01-96, 84-17, 0-103, 74-30. Asif completed an early 4-0 rout of Sattar, who tasted his first defeat at the event.
