The ruckus erupted after Rashdi presented a resolution in the assembly saying that the identity cards of adopted children should have the names of the step-parents in a separate section implying that the children are adopted.
Marri, apparently offended by the ‘sensitive issue’, snapped back at Rashdi alleging that she could not even speak properly in English. To this, Rashdi retorted by saying that women like Marri do ‘face-painting’ by putting on several layers on make-up to intimidate others.
Speaking to the media after the session, Rashdi said that she would not be intimidated by the likes of Marri. “I will not stay quiet… I will not be intimidated by her.”
Marri speaking to Express News denied creating an uproar in the assembly and said that she was only objecting to the resolution. “I only objected on the issue. I reserve the right to either object or support.”
Marri added that Rashdi has a habit of screaming in all the sessions.
The Sindh Assembly session on Monday also witnessed a similar drama after these two women started shouting at each other on the issue of Balochistan.

Not being proficient in english (even spoken) is not a crime. It can be taught and learned.Rashdi can enroll to one of many tutorials that have sprouted all over the country to train people to speak queen's english. The two I can recall at random are, 1.Shoaib Akhtar Institute of Spoken English 2.Inzamam-ul-haq ki angrezi madarassa
This is the real and true face of billionaire politicians of the poor nation and Pakistan. The well-wishers and well-doers during the elections campaigns.
Guys. Adoption is totally allowed in Islam. Not allowing the name changing of adopted child is to safeguard his/ her interests through usurpation. http://think-islam.blogspot.com/2010/11/is-adoption-allowed-in-islam.html
@XX adoption is allowed in islam but one cannot give his own name to adopted child. So child you keep the real father name and who adopt him/her is nto allowed to replace that name.
Clear and clear....
@Yuri Kondratyuk You probably thought wrong. Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) had adopted a child himself, and he himself had been adopted by his uncle after his parents passed away. As far as Islamic regulations regarding adoption, I guess I'm not too well-educated on them, but I've read multiple biographies of the Prophet, and as far as I can remember, the only process that he himself went through to adopt a child was that his wife and him went to a slave market, paid for a young boy who was held in bondage, and then simply just adopted him as a son.
People who disagree with Rashdi please sign my petition opposing her idea

Flyover to Lahore and observe a sitting of Punjab Assembly, the behaviour though out of line was like any other argument gone loud. And the speaker Nisar Khuro admonished Shazia Marri for her misbehavior despite being from the same party as hers.
Pakistanis have shameless double standards, one for politicians and one for the three jeems.
Marri is right on policy. Rashidi is wrong to single out adopted children and involving government in their affairs after their adoption. The stuff about poor English and too much makeup is not necessary.
Oh lord. Sigh.
This is the "husn" (beauty) of democracy. Lol.....
@Ramish: i meant Hazrat Zaid bin Haritha
@Yuri Kondratyuk: Prophet Muhammad had adopted Zaid bin Sabit himself. why would you think he wasnt in favour of adoption? yes the process in Islam regarding adoption is extensive so that the people who are adopting realise the responsibility they are taking upon themselves. but it isnt in any way against adoption.
This is about discrimination, vilification and oppression of adopted children ( is that a new minority ? ) , why change the story to something else ?
Wah ji wah. Angrezi main muqabla! Is it English assembly with sub-continental accent?
Pakistan will stay stuck in its rut as long as these feudals keep usurping the provincial and national assemblies. The country seriously needs to reexamine its social contract and do away with feudalism through meaningful land redistribution policies.
@Yuri Kondratyuk: WHOA! Hold on to your guns, mate. Adoption is practiced under Islam under some rules. An adopted son is not a part of the will but the father in his life can gift him the deed.
Sad to read the comments. Instead of throwing mud at the two ladies note that the point here is about adopted children. Ms Marri was right even though throwing a ruckus wasnt the right way. Having a separate section for adopted children is simply idiotic. Please people instead of acting like the two politicians mentioned kindly act a bit civilized and stop throwing muck at every one in your path.
@shakeel mahmood: This is not hate for adopted. But Allah desires that their original identity should not be wiped out. Even the adopted son Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) was not allowed to be called Ibn Muhammad.
Does this news deserve such a prominent display by this serious newspaper?
Typical Pakistani Politicians - Pathetic!
Now, it's the adopted children!-------I fail to understand the issue here, I must confess. For my understanding if a child is given for adoption due to inability (whatever reason) of a parent or parents then in my view the new parents who willingly and lovingly adopt such a child must have a right to give their name to the adopted child. It's only fair and no one should make it an issue. It's creating trouble for no rhyme or reason. In our circumstances I think we should encourage the well to do people to adopt children in need of better caring and loving parents who could provide home and parental affection and care. This could also provide an opportunity to such children to get better schooling etc. as well.
@Huma Shah: 100% in agreement with you. We must think beyond these petty issues.
So english is the Word??? i though we had urdu as national language...
Shazia Marri is very a respectable educated personality. Its def not her fault.
I always thought that the concept of adoption doesn't exist in Islam. And was disavowed by the Prophet Mohammed (PUBH) himself.
wat a shame. these r moral values of so called liberal women.
Shazia Marri was correct in pointing out on the rules of adoption.
"Rashdi presented a resolution in the assembly saying that the identity cards of adopted children should have the names of the step-parents in a separate section implying that the children are adopted".
Why? Why has this been brought up? Why cant the government stay out of our private lives? Its like we have to write our religion on our passport/CNIC. Why is that necessary? If i say i am a muslim, why should you have the right to say im not? What difference does it make what fiqh i belong to?
The right to believe me or not, or what i actually believe in, belongs to Allah Almighty alone. No one in this world has the right to judge my beliefs as long as i am not hurting anyone.
The focus of this report was the proverbial "cat fight". I think the bigger issue is "Why this bill".
The biggest lie on earth is that there were two women in a room and both of them were quite.
It is not possible that when two women interact with each other they remain quite and this is exactly happened with both of the female MPA's viz. Shazia Marri and Marvi Rashdi.
The the question arises: Who names should be written on CNIC or Form 'B' of the adopted children?
In my opinion, when the actual parents cannot brought up their children due to any reason whatsoever, these children are adopted and brought up by the couples.
I think that it should be unfair with the couples that they cannot call the adopted children as their own children, despite that fact that they do whatever is necessary to brought up the adopted children, as if the adopted children are their children.
I would request the Chief Justice of Pakistan to kindly throw some light in view of my opinion and Supreme Court of Pakistan should give a clear cut verdict on this sensitive issue to get this issue resolved once and for all in Pakistan.
Bad behavior by Shazia Marri
Disgusting behaviour of rashdi.not only did she display insensitivity towards adopted children but then she displayed her misogynistic mindset by referring to shazia's makeup. if instead of wives and sisters of powerful men ,we actually had women who had worked all their lives in the assemblies, this kind of disgraceful behaviour wouldn't have been witnessed. When you have housewives sitting in the assemblies trying to make laws and discuss legislation than this sort of tamasha will result.
Although Ms. Rashdi has my vote because she was targeted for her English, which I find to be a form of racism in context of Pakistan, she will not find in me a supporter if she presents a resolution to show the name of people who adopted the ID card holder. Show some humanity please! Why in the world would you need to do that?!
This will please the misogynists greatly.
I guess we have no choice but to vote for these kind of people.
hahahah Cat fight...
