Robberies: Protest against police over rising crime

FAISALABAD: Dozens of residents of Peoples Colony staged a protest demonstration against the police on Sunday night over rising rate of robberies in the area.

The protest was held following a robbery at Hajji Iqbal’s house in Peoples Colony No2 the same day.

The protesters said the police had yet to take action against a gang of robbers operating in the area. They said several applications had been submitted to the Batala Colony police for setting up pickets in the area to observe the movement of people.

The demonstration was called off after SSP (Operations) Sadiq Dogar reached the spot and assured Iqbal of immediate action in the matter. He told the protesters that he was oversee the investigation in the robbery at Iqbal’s house and ensure that the culprits were arrested.

Earlier, six armed men had broken into Iqbal’s house and held the family on gunpoint. They deprived the family of Rs400,000 cash and 28-tola gold jewellery.
