The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has registered an FIR against a young man for creating a Facebook profile of his cousin and uploading pictures of her onto the social networking site without her consent, The Express Tribune has learnt.
According to an investigation conducted by the FIA’s National Response Centre for Cyber Crimes (NR-3C), the accused created a fake profile and uploaded pictures of his cousin after her parents rejected his marriage proposal and arranged a match for her elsewhere.
The brother of the victim, a resident of the Punjab University hostel for girls, registered a complaint with the FIA that an anonymous person had created the fake Facebook profile, uploaded personal pictures of his sister and used “objectionable text”.
NR3C Senior Investigator Asif Iqbal found that the Internet connection used to access the fake Facebook profile was registered under the name of a resident of Mandi Ahmedabad, Depalpur tehsil, Okara district.
This person’s ID card had been used to obtain the Internet connection by his brother. The brother, taken in for questioning, confessed to creating the Facebook profile. He said he had been angry at his cousin’s family’s decision to reject his marriage proposal.
A case has been registered against the accused at the FIA Police Station Cyber Crime Circle under Sections 36 (violating of privacy of information) and 37 (damage to information system) of the Electronic Transactions Ordinance (ETO) 2002 and Section 420 (cheating and dishonesty) of the Pakistan Penal Code.
Each of these offences carry maximum sentences of seven years in prison and fines of up to Rs1 million.

i am also facing the same problem, a fake i.d has been created by my sister's name, and that person is using very ill contents and sending inappropriate contents from that i.d, and we all are very worried about it , kindly tell where to fire the complaint.
This is a everyday news, girls should avoid to post their photos or privacy on social networks including Facebook even with their close friends.
well, what he tend to do, he did. now its our turn, actually its our turn to think about our behaviour, i'm on this social network since 2007, and you cannot imagine i've seen a lot, alots of profiles created from this typo guys.. we must avoid from uploading our persoanl affairs on this type of social networking sites, mark said, if a lady wanna upload her nude pic then she can, she has rights to do so I must say their should be some limitations from our sides,
The Decision taken by the Girl Family proved to be correct, simply he does not deserved her.
@JaySabir: .. says The person who judges people over the internet! WOW (Y) Maria aunty says The men in our society are raised by their mothers to think that they are far superior to any woman. Quite obviously the mother is at fault then.. right? Kindly refrain from stereotyping. Again i repeat, wrong blog post to dish out pseudo intellectual feminist fanaticism. Men didn't force girls to act all desperate and show off their duck faces in 500 albums on public view, or wait.. did we? the desperate Need to praised. Sigh!
i also went through the same problem a few days back.this is basic man ego who cant listen no,or when theywant to get rid of a girl they start doing such things and spread rumours about girls in this way on social networking sites!these maniac men should b hanged till death!yes maria this is male dominated society and women are treated like this world citizens here!
@saleem: but still some people are scared of putting an FIR and do not register a complaint in FIA
To all those setting fake id on FB , FIA is doing a good job, we must also commend the law makers of the parliamant for making this law
How and where to register a complaint ? anyone?
And FIA should be given its due credit. Besides, they should run campaign of importance of privacy through mass media.
Maria Khan! and the lot- How did her pics land in HIS possession? One needs two hands to clap. We put our privacy up for sale on internet for $0.00 and then we whine when a buyer takes it away.
I am surprised that they actually caught the guy. keep up the good work!
I am surprised that an FIR was even registered; this kind of news should be picked up the TV channels so that idiots out there are aware of the penalties
So our system CAN work if the corrupt and the powerful don't get in the way! Bravo!
@Jadoon:
Maria is absolutely right. Mothers are more resentful towards their daughters than fathers are.
Seriously what was he thinking!!
Its a pity we didnt think of it earlier, my friend had to go through a similar ordeal when the brother of her ex-fiance did the same thing on Facebook, youtube and linkedin, that too just two months prior to her getting married to another guy.
It took loads of friends to report those pages and videos that we finally had the user blocked from the networks.
People should learn how to cope with rejection and in some cases stand up totheir own wrong doings.
finally something good from FIA after a long time.... As Jesse Eisenberg (Mark Zuckerberg) in the movie The Social Movie quotes "My main reason for creating Facebook is to interfere in lives of others without their permission." So I guess Mark achieved his goal very well..... so its our job to think before we update anything on internet or social media...
the whole point of Facebook was interfering in other people's life. well this dude got what he deserved.
@Jadoon: she is exactly talking about the same thing that reflects from your comment :)
@Jadoon: Maria Khan is right. read her comment again, and you will realise how jealous and mysogynistic people in this country tend to get towards the opposite sex and become desperate and dangerous in retaliation.
well done FIA ! Sevres well to such maniacs and idiots
@maria khan:
Yoh!! Hang till death???? calm down ma'am! u ain't no one to ask such a penalty for the guy.... its not that i have a soft heart for him but hang till death!!... aint that too much?
This shows the criminal mentality of men against the women in the society which needs to be curbed by making harsh laws, penalizing followed by imprisonment.
Well done Mr. Asif. Keep it up brother.
@Maria Khan: What really? Where did this come from? Clearly you are in the wrong section of the internet. Try a post where someone would actually care about the these kinda comments!
Cyber Identities are taking over real identities. Now thats what i call a change, a tsunami of disaster.
Yet they can't catch TTP holding press conferences for Reuters.
So sad a Depalpuria did this...
what a damaged society we all live in. no respect for women whatsoever. These ppl should understand that doing all this just adds up to the initial decision of why they were rejected. Urgent need to educate the society is calling out loud.
The men in our society are raised by their mothers to think that they are far superior to any woman, that no woman is worthy of them because they being males are by birth superior to all women.that's why our men can't accept any girl declining their marriage proposals and they resort to such behaviour as throwing acid on the faces of girls who don't do what they want.this guy needs to be hanged till death by the courts so as to set an example for the rest of the misogynists out there. You are not better than any woman just because you were born a man.
You just proved by this act that you were not the right person for her to be married off with and her's family decision is right.
A job well done FIA!
